How many times in my life have I been able to run around buying Christmas presents in only jeans and a short sleeve t-shirt with the windows rolled all the way down! I have our little tree up, I bought just a red tree skirt to add some color and now I'll be able to add some gifts underneath. We have stockings at work so I went to the dollar store and got 4x6 magnet photo holders. Simple yet useful. We are starting into our December graduation season so it'll be getting busy, but I'll need to get it all done before I leave for my extended vacation to Michigan and Iowa! However I might need some help with clothes since my carry-on is going to be filled with gifts and not toiletries for visits.
On to more recreation, there are sooooo many mountain bike trails that cut through go around up and down... and I'm not the best biker so I've mainly stayed to the basic or multi-use (wider for runners and strollers/burleys) however I don't have a helmet yet and my skin doesn't heal as well as it used to when I tip over onto tree trunks. It's fun and you don't realize how many miles you've gone but it can cause some anxiety when you can't focus on the trail ahead because you're worried about the bumpy roots you tried to pick the "path of least resistance" through. Fall'n
Well this fall as had a good start. Volleyball has been going well, the coaches have been treated to many comments on how well the girls are getting together this year, which is so great to hear. Had a tourney at Williamsburg with my sophomores last night that didn't go well, but we have 2 more of them for me to take them too so there's more chances.
I finally went on my only camping trip of the year to lake Rathbun. It had great camp sites and a nice big lake! However you'd need a big boat on windy days, not sure our little ski boat would have done well, but I was lucky enough to have a friend that owned a nice cobalt to power through the waves. We found a nice little cove to do some tubing and skiing in. I haven't been camping this year so I was really looking forward to it! I had a blast and am looking forward to when there's a chance to do it again (although just boating is good too since I can just come home to a real shower:) )

The vast worldwide web
Many of us spend time on the Internet during the day and why shouldn't we it's got so much to offer! Today I've spent quite a lot of time on the inter webs taking my mandatory reporter class that's required for coaching and teaching. Which was to say the least a little depressing, knowing that these poor children deal with so much more than what we realize. During the online course, the bar graphs and statistics showed a very steady incline of abuse cases which makes me think "are there more cases or are there just more cases being reported?" Either way it's hard to understand the thinking behind not treating a child with the love and innocence that God blessed them with.
Along with the class I was browsing some news blogs and came across one that I think everyone should know! Checking your credit report! www.annualcreditreport.com is a link that allows you to check your credit report for FREE once a year. It uses one of the major reporting firms but unfortunately (I used experian) it didn't give me my credit score. However I did learn an interesting piece of information. I had a balance that was in collection of a WHOPPING $11 from 2008! It also raised some nostalgia from old apartments and school loans. Well perhaps just the apartments since I still have the school loans. Anyway if you haven't checked your credit report for a while I suggest using the site listed above.
I'm off to tackle some cleaning then coaching then the soap scrimmage where the spring athletes are introduced then I get to play volleyball then I'm sure I'll be stealing kisses from those kiddos from The Great Lake state! Where has the time gone?
Well I haven't written for a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy. Between having 3-4 jobs, volleyball games, softball games, the occasional social event and trying to get to the boat it saves little time for myself!
We started volleyball camp last week so this week is the first week of practice. I'd like to see them run more but hopefully we're getting them conditioned through some drills. The girls seem excited for this year due to a better standard of playing time but it's still going to be a difficult season because we just don't have the talent in some positions. JV is going to be quite a bit different than my freshman last year but I'm looking forward to it as usual, since I always enjoy myself in the hot un-airconditioned box known as the high school gym. Just seems like I can never drink enough water.
School will be starting up again soon so hopefully I'll immediately get called with some subbing in the next coming weeks, hopefully if I get enough calls there I won't have to work so many nights at the Icehouse serving.
I worked in Fairfield today and was present for the CEO to tell Accounting and Client Services that they are moving the departments to Tallahassee (which has been talked about around the office so it's not a shock but they are moving fairly quickly) but since I'm not full-time this obviously doesn't pertain very much to me but it's interesting to see how things are settled in small businesses. Especially since these people have worked there so long and have families, considering I've been looking for a job for a long time and here these people are thrown into it with me!

Playa del Carmen
Mexico oh Mexico... How have I waited 25 years to partake in your sunny delight?!
Enjoy the pictures, we tried not to take 2 cameras every place, it's like putting all your eggs in one basket... for someone to steal.
Had a good time, enjoyed the sun, the fun and the buffet... maybe the buffet too much. And the tan!
We were a little surprised at how cool it was when we were there, there were 2 days that were actually hot but we really lucked out that when we went to Chichen Itza it wasn't blazing on our heads (since I was already sun burnt)
Unfortunately we didn't really take a picture of downtown but it was a great pedestrian area with lots of bargaining to be done. Since I'm a world traveler haggler, I got the job done... however I might have made some people angry from going to low... but you win some you lose some and the stuff they are selling are identical one booth over :)
Getting back into the cold wasn't too hard, it was a nice break and recharged my battery for bundling up again, but the weather has been warming a up a little, it's just gray and gross outside now.
Work at the Icehouse is going as always I'm continually running into people I know, I'll be starting down in Fairfield again soon, I worked there a few days last week as a quality assurance move, production picked up quite a bit from just one person being there. I'll be there tomorrow for hiring. I'm going to be doing most of the calling for interviews since Seth and Mike (my boss) will both be busy with keeping up with work and doing training so I guess they are passing the buck to me. However I'll only be working a few days a week, but hopefully that will give me the free time to make it to some of these weddings I have this spring! And for baby time!

We're going to be taking a van so not everyone will have to drive since it's in Ames.

I'm sure you're wondering...
Well I'm sure some of you have been wondering just what I've been doing with the plethora orf time on my hands. Well a few weekends ago I played in a volleyball tourney in North Liberty. It was definitely nice to experience the volleyball I've been missing for years and also ran into one of my friends I played volleyball with at Coe, weird how time passes and doesn't change some things. I also still play "volleyball" in Washington on Monday and Wednesday nights and go to Heat Kickboxing class Tuesdays and Thursdays, and even got Mom included in Power Yoga on Saturday mornings. I figured she should get some stretches in before her and Dad start their ballroom dancing classes on Monday nights.
I have been spending quite a bit of my time looking for that elusive job, and I feel more confident in my resume after many changes and improvements. I've also been looking for ways to make a few bucks when people aren't calling me for substitute teaching (which is a good portion of the time since the school have had 2-3 full days of school the last 2 weeks) and the solution... every poor college students "occupation" giving plasma! It doesn't pay as much as it used to, but it's some money and gives me something to do (especially since if I don't get a call I can still set up an appt the same day) and I ran into yet another friend from Coe that works there.
I've also been doing some catching up on modern electronics, PODCASTS! Since I do at some point plan to go back to school and have loathed my small vocabulary I recommend Just Vocabulary, it gives me 2 new vocabulary words to remember, and words that would actually have purpose in daily conversation and also helpful for the GRE.
I had started to dismantle my room recently. Three years ago I had packed my things away to move to China, now I had failed to remember what I even had and knew of things that needed to be released of their inactive cages. I've found a new home for my barely used snare drum, now a local resident of Lincoln Elementary School, I'm sure those kiddos at the school will enjoy drums that aren't popped, fall of their stands, doesn't make an odd rattling noise and that actually works! I can actually see the closet floor meaning more space for my shoes and out of the walking area.
I've also been given the position of Publicity Director for our local Young Professionals of Washington... which has seen it's numbers slip dramatically... now there are about 5 of us regulars and I'm hoping to change that!!! Which means we need to come up with a better "slogan" and "image" so if anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated! We've come up with quite a few good social event ideas and are hoping to help out around the community during some of the summer festivities.
I'm still working at The Icehouse on the weekends, I've been making pretty good money there the last few weekends, and they've hinted at wanting to train me for bartending so I can make more money so we'll see where that goes, if nothing else it will be good experience for later in life (only hopefully for a part-time job and not relied upon for most of my income)
